The Plant Protection Service is responsible for preventive work against spread of new plant pests. This involves plant health inspections of plants, plant products and growing media at import and export. It also includes production control and checks on the Swedish market, as well as trade with other EU countries. The Plant Protection Service is also responsible for surveys for certain pests in the Swedish territory.
The Plant Protection Service has two parts at the Swedish Board of Agriculture. The Plant Regulations Unit is the competent authority. The inspection work is carried out by the Plant Control Unit.
