deliveries shrinking when half the year has passed 235 900 tonnes
of milk were delivered to dairies in June 2017, about 1 % less than in June
2016. Figure A shows variations in quantities since 2014. 59 000 tonnes of
drinking milk, 8 300 tonnes of cream, 7 500 tonnes of cheese and
1 800 tonnes of butter were also produced in June. In
total, 30 900 cattle, of which 1 100 were calves, were slaughtered in
June 2017. Their total slaughter weight was roughly 10 200 tonnes, which
is more or less the same as in June 2016, but about 3 % less than in June
2015. This years’ trend of unusually large monthly variations in slaughter
numbers appears to have subsided, at least for cattle slaughter. Figure B shows
the developments in cattle slaughter since January 2014. While overall cattle
slaughter was unchanged compared to previous June, the slaughter was smaller in
the categories calves, cows and young cattle. Remaining categories saw an increased
slaughter. While
it has subsided for cattle, the trend of unusually large fluctuations remains
for pig slaughter. 209 100 pigs were slaughtered in June, with a total slaughter
weight just short of 19 500 tonnes. When compared to June 2016, the
slaughter of sows and young pigs decreased somewhat, but the slaughter of boars,
young boars and fattening pigs increased. The developments in pig slaughter are
illustrated in Figure C. The slaughter
of sheep, ram, and lamb was only slightly smaller in June 2017 than in June the
previous year. 16 800 animals were slaughtered in June and their combined
slaughter weight was 360 tonnes. Figure D shows how the total slaughter of
sheep, rams and lambs has developed since 2014. The
amount of slaughtered poultry was almost 12 900 tonnes in June 2017, nearly
4 % more than in the same month of 2016. The slaughter of hens was considerably
lower and the turkey slaughter was also lower than in June 2016. But roughly 96 %
of the slaughtered amount of poultry consists of chicken, which was up 5 %
compared to June 2016. Figure E shows how the total slaughter of poultry has
developed since the year 2014. Egg
delivery statistics for the first six months of 2017 are now available. In June,
the eggs delivered amounted to 9 100 tonnes. Compared to June 2016, it’s a
decrease of 7 %. But, it is 7 % more than in June 2015. The developments
in Egg deliveries are shown in Figure F. List of tables
