highest slaughter weight of sheep and lambs ever measured
The quantity of milk delivered to dairies was
235 400 tonnes in December, an amount at level with the figures for
December 2017. For the whole year, the quantity of delivered milk decreased by
2 % compared with 2017. During the month, 61 800 tonnes of drinking milk
and 18 400 tonnes of acidified milk were produced. In addition, 8 200
tonnes of cream, 7 100 tonnes of cheese, 1 100 tonnes of butter
and 5 000 tonnes of milk powder were produced during December. 29 900 cattle were slaughtered in December.
The total slaughter weight of cattle, 9 600 tonnes, decreased by 5 %
compared with December 2017. There were 425 600 cattle slaughtered in 2018
and the total slaughter weight of cattle was 136 900 tonnes, which is an
increase by 5 % compared with the figures for 2017. In December there were 191 600 pigs
slaughtered and the total slaughter weight was 17 600 tonnes. In December
the slaughter of pigs decreased by 1 %, while the total slaughter weight for
2018 increased by 4 % compared with 2017. In 2018 there were
2 464 000 pigs slaughtered and the total slaughter weight was
249 800 tonnes. In December, there were 19 300 sheep and
lambs slaughtered. In comparison with December 2017, the slaughter of sheep and
lambs increased by 4 %, to 390 tonnes. During 2018, 280 200 sheep and
lambs were slaughtered, an increase by 6 % compared with last year’s figures.
The total slaughter weight of sheep and lambs 2018 is the highest recorded. There were 11 100 tonnes of poultry
slaughtered in December, a figure in level with the statistics for December
2017. In 2018, the amount of slaughtered poultry decreased by 1 % compared with
2017. In 2018, 155 000 tonnes of poultry were slaughtered. This month’s figures for eggs delivered to
wholesalers were not available at the time of publication. The statistics will
be published in the Statistical database of the Board of Agriculture when
