Decreased slaughter in August

The quantity of milk delivered to dairies in August 2019 was 217 500 tonnes, of which 36 900 tonnes of organic milk. Compared with August 2018, the total delivery of milk decreased by roughly 4 %, while the delivery of organic milk increased by 1 %.

60 700 tonnes of drinking milk and 18 700 tonnes of acidified milk were produced during the month. Furthermore, 8 000 tonnes of cream, 6 700 tonnes of cheese, 1 200 tonnes of butter and 5 700 tonnes of milk powder were produced in August. The production of cheese included 80 tonnes of organic cheese.

There were 36 500 cattle slaughtered in August. The total slaughter weight of cattle was 11 900 tonnes, a decrease by roughly 4 % compared with the figures for August 2018.

212 900 pigs were slaughtered in August. The total slaughter weight of pigs decreased by 11 %, to 19 400 tonnes, compared with the same month last year.

The slaughter of sheep and lambs in August decreased by 19 % compared with August 2018. There were 21 600 sheep and lambs slaughtered the month and the total slaughter weight of sheep and lambs was 430 tonnes.

The total slaughter weight of poultry in August was 14 000 tonnes. Compared with the same month of last year the increase is marginal. 95 % of the slaughter of poultry consisted of chicken, a category where the slaughter increased by roughly 2 % compared with August 2018.

This month’s figures for eggs delivered to wholesalers were not available at the time of publication. The statistics will be published in the Statistical database of the Board of Agriculture when available.
