Increased slaughter of cattle and poultry in September
In September 2019, the quantity of milk delivered to dairies was 208 600 tonnes, of which 35 200 tonnes was organic milk. Compared with the figures for September 2018, the total milk delivery decreased by 3 %, while the delivery of organic milk decreased by roughly 1 %.
During September, there were 59 800 tonnes of drinking milk and 18 400 tonnes of acidified milk produced at the dairies. There were also 7 900 tonnes of cream, 6 100 tonnes of cheese, 1 000 tonnes of butter and 5 600 tonnes of milk powder produced. The production of cheese included 80 tonnes of organic products.
In September 2019, there were 37 600 cattle slaughtered. The total slaughter weight of cattle was 12 100 tonnes, which is an increase by about 3 % compared with the statistics for the same month last year.
During September, there were 206 000 pigs slaughtered with a total slaughter weight of 18 900 tonnes. Compared with September 2018, the decrease was marginal.
32 000 sheep and lambs were slaughtered in September 2019. The total slaughter weight of sheep and lambs was 630 tonnes, a decrease by 4 % compared with the statistics for September last year.
In September, the total slaughter weight of poultry was 14 000 tonnes. Compared with September 2018, it was a 14 % increase. 94 % of slaughtered poultry consisted of chicken. The slaughter of chicken increased by approximately 12 %.
This month’s figures for eggs delivered to wholesalers were not available at the time of publication. When available, the statistics will be published in the Statistical database of the Board of Agriculture.
