Increased slaughter of sheep in March

The quantity of milk delivered to dairies in March 2020 was 242 200 tonnes, of which 42 000 tonnes organic milk. Compared with March 2019, the total delivery of milk increased by roughly 1 %, while the delivery of organic milk decreased by roughly 1 %.

There were 59 400 tonnes of drinking milk and 20 500 tonnes of acidified milk produced during the month. Furthermore there were 6 100 tonnes of cream, 7 300 tonnes of cheese, 1 700 tonnes of butter and 5 500 tonnes of milk powder produced during the month. The production of cheese included 100 tonnes of organic products.

37 500 cattle were slaughtered in March 2020. The total slaughter weight of cattle was 12 000 tonnes, which is a decrease by 1 % in comparison with March 2019.

There were 226 400 pigs slaughtered in March 2020. The total slaughter weight of pigs was 21 400 tonnes, which is an increase by approximately 2 % compared with the statistics for March 2019.

The slaughter of sheep and lambs in March 2020 increased by 7 % compared with March 2019. During March 2020, there were 14 300 sheep and lambs slaughtered and the total slaughter weight amounted to 280 tonnes.

The quantity of slaughtered poultry in March was 13 400 tonnes. Compared with the figures for March 2019, the slaughter of poultry decreased by 2 %. The slaughter of chicken accounted for roughly 95 % of slaughtered poultry and decreased by roughly 1 %.

This month’s figures for eggs delivered to wholesalers were not available at the time of publication. When available, the statistics will be published in the Statistical database of the Board of Agriculture.
