In this
report data are presented on the use of arable land for 2001. The figures are
mainly based on data from the Swedish administrative system for agricultural
subsidies, containing data on farmers who have applied for agricultural
subsidies. It is also based on information collected by a simplified mail
inquiry to all holders (including those who have not applied for financial
support) during 2000.
The figures
in this report refer to holdings with more than 2,0 hectares of arable land. In
2001 the number of holdings amounted to 74 300 and the total arable land to 2
694 000 hectares. The area used for wheat was 399 000 hectares or 15 % of
the total arable land. The corresponding figures for barley and oats were 676
000 hectares or 25 %. 956 000 hectares or 35 % of the area were used
for temporary grass and green fodder. Between 2000 and 2001 the number of holdings
has decreased with 2 500 or 3% and the total arable land has decreased with 12
000 hectares or 0,4 %.
