According
to the applications for EU-subsidies, the total area of arable land has
decreased by 22 100 hectares between 2005 and 2006 in the Sweden, but the
total area of pasture and meadowland hs increased by 5 000 hectares. Thus the
total agricultural area has decreased by 17 100 hectares. Areas under cereals,
potatoes and sugar beets decreases
The
cultivation of cereals is estimated to decrease by 40 500 hectares, or almost
4 % till 988 600 hectares between 2005 and 2006. Such low areas with
cereals has never ever been reported so far in Sweden. The cultivation of
potatoes is estimated
by 28 000 hectares.
That is a decrease of almost
8 % compared with 2005 and the lowest report so far in Sweden. The
cultivation of sugar beets is estimated by 43 600 hectares. That is a decrease
of 11 % compared with 2005 and that is the lowest report since the end of
the 1960s (apart from 1991). The cultivation of rape
and turnip rape
increases
The
cultivation of rape and turnip rap is estimated to decrease
with almost 10 % to 91 100 hectares and that is the lowest reported area since the end of the
