The number
of holdings decreased from 72 609 in 2007 to 71 091 in 2010. In 2010,
new thresholds were used for holdings to be included in the Swedish Farm
Register. The main effect of the new thresholds was that the number of holdings
with less than 2.1 hectares of arable land increased. The total number of
holdings in 2010, using the same thresholds as in previous years, was
68 150. Except the
increase in the number of holdings with less than 2 hectares of arable land,
the number of holdings also increased in the size-class 5.1 to 10.0 hectares
and in the size-class 100.1 hectares and more. The share of female
holders is almost constant
The number of female holders in
private firms was 10 136 in 2010, a small increase compared with 2007. The share
of female holders showed a small increase but was almost at the same level as
2007, slightly more than 15 %. The number of limited companies and other type
of legal persons increased during the same period.
Every fourth holder is 65
years or older
More than
every fourth holder in agriculture were 65 years or older in 2010, which is an
increase compared with 2007. Almost 20 % of the holders were 45 years or
younger. The difference in age distribution between women and men was small,
although the share of younger holders was somewhat higher for women than for
men. Almost 23% of the women were 45 years or younger compared with 18 %
