The number of milk cows
has decreased during a long period of years. However, the estimation for
2004 shows a small increase since 2003. A higher milproduction in 2004 than
in 2003 is one explanation to this. The number of cows for slaughtering
increased rapidly in the early 1990:s. Since then the number of these
animals has been between 160 000 and 170 000 heads.
The total number of
pigs slowly increased between 1990 and 1997. From then the total number of
pigs has decreased each year with exception of fattening pigs in 2003. In
2004, the total number of pigs were 1,8 million heads which is 23 % less
than in 1997.
