The number of cattle continues to decrease
The total number of cattle in Sweden has decreased between 2006 and 2007. The total number of cattle in June 2007 is calculated to be 1 556 600 wich is approximately 2 % lower than in 2006. The number of dairy cows is significantly less than in June 2006, however there has been an increase in other cows.
Since last year the total number of heifers, bulls and steers is estimated to decrease with 2,7 % while the number of calves have been almost unchanged.
An increase in the number of pigs for fattening
The total number of pigs is calculated to increase between June 2006 and June 2007. Pigs for fattening show the most significant increase while the number of breeding sows is calculated to be almost unchanged. The number of piglets under 20 kg is calculated to decrease.
The number of sheeps continues to increase
The number of sheeps is expected to increase up to 520 900 in June 2007. This is more than 3 % higher than 2006 and almost 12 % higher than 2004. It is also the highest number of sheeps since 1944.
