of cattle has decreased during the last years. Since the last survey, which was
performed in year 2006, the number of cattle has decreased with almost
30 000 animals. It is the group calves younger than one year that stands
for the biggest decrease. The group heifers, bulls and steers is the only group
which shows a stable increase since 1995. Despite this, and the fact that the number of cattle holdings has decreased, the size of herd for cattle has increased. At the same time as the average size of herd has increased with 3 % or 2 animals, the number of holdings has decreased with 2 500 since 2006. Increased production in sheep holdingsDespite a small decrease during the latest year, the number of ewes and rams has increased with 24 % since 1995. The number of lambs shows no major change. In total the number of sheep has increased with 3 500 since 2006. There is a decrease in the amount of sheep holdings and the average herd size has thus increased a lot. Since last year with just over 13 % and since 1995 with closer to 55 % or 11 holdings. Major increase in pigs herd sizeThe number of pigs decreased during the last year which is a sequel to the steady downward trend since 1995. Only the number of fattenings pigs raises but it does not cover the decrease of sows, boars and, mainly, piglets. In total the number of pigs has decreased with more than 4 100 since 2006. Also the number of breeders decreases. Since 2006 the number has fallen with 450 breeders. The number has decreased with approximately 80 % since 1995. The average herd size has increased since 1995 though and the trend continues also during the latest year. The number of fattening pigs holdings has increased considerably but the sows and boars holdings shows the greatest increase calculated as a percentage closer to 310 %. List of tables 1a.
