Summary Summary
In June
2009, the number of dairy cows was 356 800, a decrease of approximately
400 animals compared to June 2008. Since 1995 the number of dairy cows has
decreased by almost 125 300 or 26 %. The number
of holdings with dairy cows has continued to decrease since June 2008. In June
2009 such holdings amounted to 6 000. The number of holdings with cows for
calf production decreased from 12 300 in 2008 to approximately 11 900
in 2009, a decrease of 400 holdings. The number
of pigs has also shown a decrease since 2008. Fattening pigs decreased by
31 600 animals between 2008 and 2009. This corresponds to a decrease of
approximately 3 %. The number of sows and boars has decreased by 9 500
animals or 6 % since 2008. Since 1995, the number of holdings with production
of fattening pigs has decreased by 79 % or 6 500 holdings whereas the
breeders of piglets have decreased by 85 % or 5 800 holdings. Since 2008,
the number of holdings with piglets has decreased by 200. Between
2008 and 2009 the number of sheep has increased by 15 700 animals which is
a change of approximately 3 %. Compared to 1995 the number of sheep has
increased by more than 17 %. However there has not been any significant change
in the number of holdings with sheep during the last year (8 200 holdings
with ewes and rams, and 7 000 holdings with lambs). Between June 1995 and
June 2009 the number of holdings with sheep has decreased by approximately 20
%. The number
of fowls has decreased by 14 % since 1995. Between 2008 and 2009, there was a 5
% decrease in the number of fowls and a 28 % decrease in the number of holdings
with fowls. In June
2009 the sum of chicken of laying breed recorded a new high (approximately 1, 9
million), surpassing even that of the peak experienced in 1995.The number of holdings with chickens of laying breed,
however, has decreased by 300 since 2008. List
