publikationen (PDF)”. The total number of cattle
has increased
Since 2015,
the total number of
cattle has increased slightly (0.6 %) after many years with a decreasing
population. The increase is mainly due to more suckler cows and more calves.
The number of dairy cows has decreased despite the increase in the total number
of cattle. Since 2007, the number of dairy cows has decreased by 11 %. The number
of holdings with cattle continues to decrease. The decrease can be seen for all
types of cattle. However, the decrease is more obvious for holdings with dairy
cows. The average holding size continues to increase. Since 2013, the average
heard size has increased by 11 % or 8 animals and the number of holdings has
decreased by 1 900 (10 %). The number of sheep is
higher 2016 compared to 2007
The number
of ewes and rams has increased by 16 % since 2007. The number of lambs has
increased by 11 % during the same period. In total, the number of sheep has
increased by 69 300 since 2007. However, the number of sheep, which was
the highest in 2011, has decreased thereafter. The number of sheep holdings is
stable since 2010 and the average herd size has been stable during the last
years. The average herd
size for ewes and rams was 30.3 heads in 2007 and 32.5 heads in 2016. The number of pigs
continues to decrease
The number
of pigs decreased in 2016 which is a continuation of the steady downward trend
that has been seen for many years. However, the decrease during the last years
has been less significant than before. In total, the number of pigs has
decreased by more than 44 000 since the last census in 2013. Since 2015,
when the number was estimated through a sample survey, a decrease of 1 700
animals can be seen. However, this is not a statistically significant decrease.
Since 2007, the number
of breeders has decreased by approximately 43 %, or 1 000 breeders. Only a slight
decrease, however, can be seen since 2013. The average herd size has increased
since 2007. On average a
breeder of fattening pigs currently has a herd of 820 heads. In 2007, the same
figure was 524 heads. List of tables
