The number
of horses in Sweden is estimated to 355 500 in the year 2016. This is a decrease
by 2 % compared to the year 2010. But the decrease is not statistically
reliable. The standard error of this estimation is 4.9 %. This gives us the 95
% confidence interval 321 400 – 389 600. The number of horses is also presented
per county in this report, but the standard error for those figures are
substantially higher, so the figures should be interpreted with caution. Number of locations
with horses
The number
of locations with horses in Sweden June 2 is estimated to 76 800. The standard
error of this estimation is 3.1 %. The definition of a location in this study
includes both properties with buildings or properties without buildings. Number of
establishments with horses and total number of establishments in Sweden
The number
of establishments with horses June 2 in Sweden is estimated to 61 700 and
the total number of establishments for horses is estimated to 105 300. Number of horses per
1 000 inhabitants
The number
of horses per 1 000 inhabitants is 36 for the whole country. The counties of
Stockholm an Upper Norrland have the lowest number of horses per 1 000
inhabitants with 12 and 23 respectively. The island of Gotland has the highest ratio
with 103. The second highest was Kronoberg with 72 horses per 1 000
inhabitants. These numbers should also be interpreted with caution because of
the high standard errors. Share of horses in
urban and rural areas
The result
of the study shows that 76 % of all horses and 71 % of the locations with horses are located in city
