The number of organic laying hens continued to increase in 2015
This report contains statistics on fully converted organic livestock in Sweden. The statistics cover livestock reared using organic production methods according to Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 of 28 June 2007 on organic production and labelling of organic products and repealing Regulation (EEC) No 2092/91.
In June 2015, 285 800 or 19 % of the cattle were converted to organic production methods, an increase by almost 2 % since 2014. 14 % of the dairy cows and 35 % of the suckler cows were fully converted to organic farming in 2015.
The number of fully converted sheep was 121 900 in 2015, about the same number as in 2014. The share of organic sheep in relation to the total herd was 20 %.
In 2015, 1 114 200 or 15 % of the laying hens were fully converted to organic production methods, an increase by almost 24 % compared with 2014. The number of organic laying hens has steadily been increasing and, in total, the number has increased by 53 % since 2010.
