The number of organic dairy cows decreased by 3 % in 2019
This report contains statistics on fully converted
organic livestock in Sweden. The statistics cover livestock reared using
organic production methods according to Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 of
28 June 2007 on organic
In June 2019, 333 200 or 23 % of the cattle were fully converted to organic production methods, which means that there were no major change since 2018. The number of dairy cows decreased by 3 % and the number of suckler cows were almost the same as in 2018. 19 % of the dairy cows and 36 % of the suckler cows were fully converted to organic farming in 2019.
The number of fully converted sheep was 119 200 in 2019, a decrease by 8 % compared with 2018. The share of organic sheep in relation to the total number of sheep was 22 %.
The number of organic laying hens has steadily been increasing up until 2016. After that the number of laying hens has been more stable. In 2019, 1 261 000 or 14 % of the laying hens were fully converted to organic production methods, a decrease by almost 2 % compared with 2018.
For pigs and broilers the number of organic holdings are low. In 2019 the number of organic pigs increased by 9 % to 36 600 compared with 2018. About 3 % of the total number of pigs in Sweden are fully converted to organic production methods
In 2019, the number of broilers increased by 5 % compared with 2018. The number of fully converted broilers in 2019 was estimated to 134 600. The share of organic broilers was 1 %.
