Background
The Farm
Economic Survey (JEU) is an annual book-keeping survey. The aim of the survey
is to illustrate the development of receipts and costs in agriculture. As a
member state of the EU Sweden is obliged to deliver data to the Farm Accountancy
Data Network (FADN). A database containing data on 1 020 farms was delivered
2011 to DG AGRI at the EU Commission.
The base of
the calculations is net profit or loss in agriculture at current costs. The current
cost for an asset is the replacement value reduced by depreciation.
Results
The results
shown in the tables are the final statistics based on Swedish typology as well
as EU typology and show receipts and costs in agriculture for the year 2011.
Generally,
dairy, beef cattle and pig farmers achieved lower net incomes in 2011 compared
with 2010. Both the price for milk and the value of the livestock decreased in
the dairy production which led to lower results than previous year. At the same
time, the operating costs, depreciations and other overheads increased for
livestock in general during 2011. The tables indicate that the gross margin
decreased for the dairy and beef cattle farmers while it increased for the crop
and pig farmers compared with the previous year. As a result of higher prices
the net profit for the crop producers increased significantly in 2011.
