During the period 1980-2009 the total
consumption of flour and grain has increased by 5 % to 67 kg per capita
and year, meat by 30 % to 83 kg, vegetables by 85 % to 76 kg and fruits by 10 %
to 92 kg. The total consumption of milk during the same period has decreased
from about 185 to 130 litres per capita and year, a decrease by 30 %. In addition,
the consumption of edible fats has decreased during the period from almost 25
to 17 kg per capita and year, a decrease by 30 %.
The total consumption of sugar and treacle was 40 kg per capita in 2009 and
has varied between 37 and 45 kg during the period 1980-2009. At the same time
the consumption of chocolate and confectionery has increased strongly together
with soft drinks. It seems, however, that the increase was less dramatic after
2000. During 2009 the consumption of chocolate and confectionery per capita and
year was 15 kg, which was 54 % higher than 1980. Consumption of soft drinks is
three times as great in 2009 compared with 1980. Mineral water and carbonated
water with sugar and flavours cannot be separated
from soft drinks and it is probable that these products have contributed to the
above-mentioned increase.
The National Food Administration is
responsible for the calculations of nutritive values. Since they are in the
process of changing their programme for calculations with new data, the part
"Näringsinnehåll i konsumerade livsmedel", tables and graphs concerning
nutritive values are shown for 2009 and 2008 but values for 2006 and 2007 are
missing. Changes between adjacent years are not very substantial.
During the period 1980-2009 the total
supply of energy from food products has increased from 12 000 to about 13 200
kJ per capita and day, corresponding to 10 %. About 29 % of the total supply of
energy comes from bread and cereals, 13 % from meat and meat products and 21%
from milk, milk products, eggs and edible fats. Altogether - sugar, treacle,
chocolate and confectionery, ice cream, beer and soft drinks etc. account for
16 % of the total supply of energy.
