Summary Summary
A third of the occupied persons within agriculture are women
The number
of occupied persons within the Swedish agriculture was 167 950 in 2003. This is
a decrease with roughly 9 000 people, or about 5 %, since 1999 when the last
comparable survey was done. The decrease of the number of occupied persons
within agriculture is an ongoing trend since a number of years back in time.
The decrease is significantly smaller in the beginning of the 21st century than
it was in the late 1990s, when the number of occupied persons decreased with
more than 19 000 between 1995 and 1999. Among the
permanently occupied persons in 2003, a third were women, corresponding to
48 500 persons. This share has been rather unchanged since 1999. Of the
total number of occupied persons within agriculture, roughly 15 % were
temporary occupied, which is an increase since 1999. The occupied persons are
dominated by family members
Of the
total number of occupied persons within agriculture in 2003, there were
143 300, or 85 %, at holdings which were run by private persons. On
these holdings were 63 000 holders and 56 500 family members of the
holder. The others, i.e. non‑family members, constitute 23 800 or
16 % of the number of occupied persons on these holdings. List of tables
