Review on the statistics on farm labour force statistics
The
statistics in this report is based on the Swedish Farm register and a postal
questionnaire sent to a sample of agricultural holdings. The Swedish Farm register
is updated by using postal questionnaires and administrative sources as the register
on the farmers applications for area based subsidies. In 2005 the Mid Term
review was implemented in Sweden. As a consequence of the new agricultural
policy the number of applications for area based subsidies increased
considerably. A large part of the new applications could not be linked to existing
holdings in the Farm register and this
lead to an increase in the number of holdings in the Farm register. Due to the
increase in the number of holdings, the estimated number of occupied persons
within the Swedish agriculture 2005 increased compared to 2003. These increases
do not mean a correspondingly change in the actual structure of the agricultural
sector. One third of the occupied
persons within the Swedish agriculture are women
The number
of occupied persons within the Swedish agriculture was 173 884 in 2005.
This corresponds to an increase with 5 900 persons, or 3,5 %,
compared to 2003 when the last comparable survey was conducted. About one third
of the occupied persons were women. In total 154 100, or 89 % persons
were occupied on a regular basis while 19 600, or 11 %, were working
on a non-regular basis. Of the
total number of occupied persons within agriculture in 2005 there were
151 500, or 87 %, at holdings which were run by private persons. On
these holdings there were 70 700 holders, of which 8 700 or 12 %
were women, 62 000 persons were family members of the holder. The total
number of occupied person at holdings which were run by legal person was
22 400. List of tables1. Number of occupied persons for all holding categories. 2. Number of occupied persons at holdings owned by private persons. 3.
