onion production has steadily been increasing during the last decade and was
more than 125 percent higher in 2015 compared with 2005. Between 2014 and 2015,
production increased by 21 percent to just under 65 000 tonnes. In
contrast, several crops exhibited a decrease in production between 2014 and
2015; the production of iceberg lettuce decreased by 19 percent, while the
harvest of leeks, gherkins, white cabbage and cauliflower decreased by between
8 and 12 percent. From a
production point of view, carrot has been the largest Swedish horticultural
crops for quite some time, exhibiting a production of more than 115 000
tonnes in 2015. From an area perspective, the largest crops were in descending
order: strawberries, carrots, apples and onions. The Swedish
greenhouse cultivation of vegetables is dominated by cucumber, tomato, spices
and potted lettuce. The production of cucumber, tomato and spices did not
exhibit any changes between 2014 and 2015, while the production of potted
lettuce decreased by 9 percent. List of tables
