The Swedish leek production decreased by 40 % between the years 2015 and 2016, from 4 900 to 2 900 tonnes. During the same period the harvest of broccoli and cauliflower decreased by 29 and 11 %, respectively. In contrast, the greenhouse production of cucumber and potted lettuce increased by 16 %, while the harvested number of greenhouse-grown aromatic plants increased by 8 %. In consequence, the harvests of greenhouse-grown cucumber and aromatic plants were the largest to date.

With respect to the harvested amount, carrot has long since been the most important Swedish edible horticultural crop, exhibiting a harvest of just below 112 000 tonnes in 2016. When instead looking at cultivated area, strawberries constitute the largest crop with a planted area of 2 301 hectares in 2016, followed in descending order by carrots, apples and onions.
