Crop production forecast for cereals and oilseed crops in 2018
This report provides forecasts concerning yields per hectare and total production of cereals and oilseed crops for the year 2018. The results are presented at the national level.
The forecast shows that the total production of cereals is estimated to be 4.2 million tonnes in 2018, which is 29 % less than 2017 and 25 % less than the average for the years 2013–2017. The reason for the lower total production of cereals estimated for 2018 is the rainy autumn and a late spring but most importantly this year's summer drought.
This year’s harvest of oilseeds is estimated to be 0.2 million tonnes, which is about 44 % less than in 2017. Compared with the average total production of oilseeds for the last five years, the estimation of the production in 2018 is 36 % lower. Winter rape corresponds to 90 % of the total production of oilseeds.
Yield per hectare
Yields per hectare are estimated to decrease for all of the cereal crops compared with 2017 and compared with the average yields per hectare for the last five years. The forecast shows that the yield of Winter wheat expected to decrease by 15 % to 6 280 kg/ha and it is the highest yields per hectare for any cereals.
Yields per hectare for oilseed crops are estimated to increase for turnip rapes and decrease for rapes compared with 2017. The forecast shows that the yield of Winter rape expect to be the highest yields per hectare for any oilseeds. It is expected to decrease by 40 % to 2 060 kg/ha compared with the previous year and the average yield per hectare for the last five years, this due to the summer drought.
