Plant Varieties

The EU regulates the marketing of plant reproductive material of agricultural, vegetable, forest, fruit and ornamental species and vines, ensuring that EU criteria for health and quality are met.

Variety lists

To be allowed to sell seeds and other propagating material of agricultural plant, vegetable and fruit plant species, the variety have to be approved. This means that it should be listed in the Swedish list of varieties or in the EU common catalogue of varieties of agricultural plant, vegetable or fruit plant species.

In the Swedish Plant Varieties Gazette you´ll find information about the Swedish plant breeders' rights and about the Swedish lists of varieties.

Swedish Plant Breeders Rights

If you have bred a new plant variety or if you are a representative or an agent for a plant breeder, you may apply for Swedish plant breeder’s right for that new variety.

The approval of plant varieties

If you are a holder of a variety or his representative, you can apply for addition of that variety to the Swedish national list of varieties. You´ll find application forms and requirements here.
