The slaughter of organically reared cattle continued to increase
The slaughter of cattle increased by 11 % 2013 compared with 2012. In 2013 15 % of the total slaughter of cattle consisted of cattle reared on holdings applying organic production methods. Also the slaughter of organic sheep increased. The increase is estimated to 6 % and in 2013 22 % of the sheep slaughtered were reared on holdings applying organic production methods.
The number of organic pigs and broilers is low in Sweden and as a consequence the organic animal production is low. In 2013 only 2 % of the total slaughter of pigs and 0.3 % of the slaughter of broilers came from animals reared on holdings applying organic production methods.
A small increase in the organic milk production was recorded during 2013. The share of organic milk production amounted to 13 % of total milk production which was almost the same level as 2012.
The organic egg production in Sweden had a share of about 13 % of total egg production. Organic egg delivered to wholesalers increased by 7 % in 2013.
