Increased average weight of slaughtered pigs indicated by November 2016 statistics
219 700 tonnes of milk were delivered to dairies in November 2016. Figure A shows how these quantities have varied from 2013 till November 2016. The production of drinking milk was 70 700 tonnes in November 2016, about the same as in November 2015. This far the production of dairy products has remained more or less unchanged compared to the previous year. Up to and including October the exception has been butter production, but in November it dropped by 31 %. This brought total year production back to about the same level as in 2015. See Table 2 for more details.
In total, more than 38 500 adult cattle and 1 700 calves were slaughtered in November 2016. Like earlier months this year, the number of calves slaughtered is substantially lower than in previous years. Total slaughter weight is shown in Figure B. 281 800 pigs were slaughtered in November 2016, with a combined slaughter weight of 20 300 tonnes. The number of animals is unchanged compared to November 2015, but the total slaughter weight is roughly 3 % higher, meaning the animals are now heavier at the point of slaughter. Figure C shows how the slaughter of pigs has developed since the year 2013. The total slaughter of sheep, rams and lambs in November 2016 was roughly 600 tonnes, which is marginally more than in November 2015. Figure D shows how the total slaughter of sheep, rams and lambs has developed since the year 2013.
More than 13 400 tonnes of poultry were slaughtered in November 2016. Compared with November 2015, both the slaughter of chickens and turkeys have increased, while the slaughter of hens has decreased. Chicken constituted 95 % of slaughtered weight and 97 % of the number of slaughtered poultry. Figure E shows how the total slaughter of poultry has developed since the year 2015.
The latest egg delivery statistics available are for the month of September, but as soon as more recent data becomes available it will be published in the Board of Agriculture Database.
