increase in the slaughter of cattle, pigs and poultry in October 2017 In October 223 600 tonnes of milk were
delivered to dairies, an amount in level with last year’s October deliveries.
64 700 tonnes of drinking milk were produced, as well as 9 000 tonnes
of cream, 7 200 tonnes of cheese and 1 400 tonnes of butter. In
Figure A one can see the developments in monthly milk quantities since January
2014. About 38 500 cattle, of which 1 500
were calves. The total slaughter weight of cattle was 12 400 tonnes, a 6 %
increase in comparison with October 2016. The category Young cows was the only
with a decrease in slaughter compared to the same month last year. Figure B
shows the developments in cattle slaughter. This month 220 100 pigs were slaughtered
and the total slaughter weight was 20 300 tonnes. Compared to October
2016, it’s a 9 % increase. In comparison to the October listing of 2015 there
is a 2 % increase. Further developments in slaughter of pigs can be seen in
Figure C. In the slaughter of sheep and lambs there was a
2 % decrease in October 2017 compared to October last year. 36 900 sheep
and lambs were slaughtered during the month, at a total slaughter weight of 710
tonnes. The developments in the slaughter of sheep and lambs is shown in Figure
D. The amount of slaughtered poultry in October
was 13 200 tonnes. It’s an increase by 4 % compared to October 2016. In
the categories hens and poultry, the slaughter decreased with 3 % respectively
10 %. Regardless of this decreased the total slaughter of poultry increased,
because the slaughter of chickens. This category accounted for 95 % of the
total slaughter of poultry and increased by 5 %. The developments in slaughter
of poultry is illustrated in Figure E. Egg delivery statistics for October are not yet
