Record high slaughter of sheep, rams and lambs in 2017

In December, 235 400 tonnes of milk were delivered to diaries. Total delivered milk to diaries decreased by 2 % during 2017 compared with 2016. In December the production of drinking milk was 66 100 tonnes. 2017 the produced amount was 2 % less than 2016. There were also 10 700 tonnes of cream, 6 600 tonnes of cheese and 600 tonnes of butter produced in December.

A total of 31 200 cattle were slaughtered in December, of which 1 200 were calves. The total slaughter weight of cattle was 10 000 tonnes, a decrease by 8 % compared with December 2016. In 2017, 406 000 cattle were slaughtered with a total slaughter weight of 132 100 tonnes. This is 1 % less than the statistics for 2016.

In December, 191 400 pigs were slaughtered. The total slaughter weight decreased with 10 % compared with December 2016 and decreased to 17 800 tonnes. For the whole of 2017, there were 2 576 300 pigs slaughtered with a slaughter weight of 240 700 tonnes. In comparison with 2016, there was a 3 % increase.

In December, there were 19 200 sheep, rams and lambs slaughtered with a total slaughter weight of 370 tonnes. For the whole of 2017, the corresponding figures were 261 600 animals and 5 300 tonnes. In relation to 2016, this was an increase by 4 %.

There were 11 100 tonnes of poultry slaughtered in December, a decrease by 19 % compared with December 2016. During 2017, there were 156 800 tonnes of poultry slaughtered. This amount is at the same level as in 2016.

During 2017, a total of 118 200 tonnes of eggs were delivered by the members of the Swedish Egg and Poultry Association. In relation to 2016, the delivered amount decreased by 2 %.
