The slaughter in July is the highest in several years

The quantity of milk delivered to dairies in July was 229 400 tonnes. This is a decrease by 3 % compared with July 2017. 60 300 tonnes of drinking milk and 18 800 tonnes of acidified milk were produced at the dairies. 8 000 tonnes of cream, 6 600 tonnes of cheese, 1 500 tonnes of butter and 7 300 tonnes of milk powder were also produced during the month.

30 900 cattle, of which 1 000 calves, were slaughtered in July. The total slaughter weight of cattle was 10 100 tonnes, an increase by 7 % compared with July 2017. The total slaughter weight of cattle in July is the highest figure since July 2009.

231 700 pigs were slaughtered in July and the total slaughter weight of pigs was 21 800 tonnes. The slaughter weight increased by 7 % compared with the figures for July last year. The total slaughter weight of pigs in July is the largest since July 2010.

Compared with July 2017, the slaughter of sheep and lambs increased by nearly 20 %. There were 20 700 sheep and lambs slaughtered in July and the total slaughter weight was 420 tonnes. This is the greatest slaughter weight in July since monthly data was first published in 1995.

This month’s figures for slaughtered poultry and egg delivery were not available at the time of publication. The statistics will be published in the Statistical database of the Board of Agriculture when available.
