Delivered milk increased in April
The quantity of milk delivered to dairies in April 2019 was 239 700 tonnes, of which 40 700 tonnes was organic milk. In comparison with figures for April 2018, the total delivery of milk increased by 2 %, while the delivery of organic milk increased marginally.
61 700 tonnes of drinking milk and 18 700 tonnes of acidified milk were produced during April. The production of drinking milk included 11 800 tonnes of organic products while the production of acidified milk included 2 000 tonnes of organic products.
There were 8 200 tonnes of cream, 7 200 tonnes of cheese, 1 600 tonnes of butter and 4 800 tonnes of milk powder produced during April 2019. Organic products accounted for 410 tonnes of produced cream and 120 tonnes of produced cheese.
In April there were 34 900 cattle slaughtered and the total slaughter weight of cattle was 11 300 tonnes. Compared with the figures for the same month last year there was a marginal increase.
There were 219 000 pigs slaughtered in April. The total slaughter weight of pigs was 20 700 tonnes, an increase by 1 % compared with April 2018.
The slaughter of sheep and lambs increased by 19 % in April compared with the same month last year. There were 17 400 sheep and lambs slaughtered during the month and the total slaughter weight of sheep and lambs was 360 tonnes.
The total slaughter weight of poultry in April was 13 400 tonnes. Compared with April 2018 it is an increase by roughly 5 %. The slaughter of poultry consisted of 95 % chicken. The slaughter of chicken increased by 5 % compared with the statistics for April 2018.
This month’s figures for eggs delivered to wholesalers were not available at the time of publication. The statistics will be published in the Statistical database of the Board of Agriculture when available.
