The slaughter of cattle increased in May
The quantity of milk delivered to dairies in May 2019 was 239 400 tonnes, of which 40 900 tonnes was organic milk. Compared with the figures for May 2019, the total delivery of milk decreased by 4 %, while the delivery of organic milk decreased by 2 %.
There were 62 000 tonnes of drinking milk and 18 900 tonnes of acidified milk produced during the month. Organic products made up 11 900 tonnes of produced drinking milk and 2 000 tonnes of the produced acidified products.
8 200 tonnes of cream, 6 900 tonnes of cheese, 1 600 tonnes of butter and 4 800 tonnes of milk powder were produced in May 2019. The production of cream and cheese included 410 tonnes of organic cream and 150 tonnes of organic cheese.
In May there were 36 600 cattle slaughtered. The total slaughter weight of cattle was 11 900 tonnes, which was an increase by 2 % compared with the figures for May 2018.
225 300 pigs were slaughtered in May 2019. The total slaughter weight of pigs was 21 100 tonnes. In comparison with the same month last year, the total slaughter weight of pigs decreased by 3 %.
There were 17 800 sheep and lambs slaughtered in May. The total slaughter weight of sheep and lambs, 390 tonnes, decreased by 2 % compared with the figures for May 2018.
This month’s figures for slaughtered poultry and eggs delivered to wholesalers were not available at the time of publication. The statistics will be published in the Statistical database of the Board of Agriculture when available.
