Increased slaughter of poultry in October 2019
The quantity of milk delivered to dairies in October 2019 was 213 400 tonnes, of which 36 400 tonnes was organic milk. Compared with the figures for October 2018, the total milk delivery decreased by roughly 3 %, while the delivery of organic milk showed a marginal increase.
There were 60 700 tonnes of drinking milk and 18 400 tonnes of acidified milk produced during October. Furthermore there were 7 900 tonnes of cream, 6 300 tonnes of cheese, 1 000 tonnes of butter and 5 700 tonnes of milk powder produced. The production of cheese included 80 tonnes of organic products.
There were 43 300 cattle slaughtered in October 2019. The total slaughter weight of cattle was 13 800 tonnes. In comparison with the statistics for October 2018, the total slaughter weight of cattle decreased by 1 %.
The slaughter of pigs in October decreased by 7 % compared with the same month last year. During the month there were 226 900 pigs slaughtered and the total slaughter weight of pigs was 21 000 tonnes.
37 900 sheep and lambs were slaughtered in October 2019. The total slaughter weight of sheep and lambs, 720 tonnes, was a decrease by 11 % compared with the statistics for October of last year.
The quantity of poultry slaughtered in October amounted to 15 100 tonnes. Compared with the figures for October 2018, it was a 5 % increase. 95 % of the slaughter of poultry consisted of chicken. The slaughter of chicken increased by 8 % compared with October 2018.
This month’s figures for eggs delivered to wholesalers were not available at the time of publication. When available, the statistics will be published in the Statistical database of the Board of Agriculture.
