Significantly reduced slaughter of pigs and sheep in November
The quantity of milk delivered to dairies in November 2019 was 210 800 tonnes, of which 36 500 tonnes was organic milk. In comparison with the statistics for November 2018, the total milk delivery decreased by approximately 1 %, while the delivery of organic milk showed a marginal decrease.
60 300 tonnes of drinking milk and 19 200 tonnes of acidified milk were produced during the month. There were also 7 900 tonnes of cream, 6 500 tonnes of cheese, 1 300 tonnes of butter and 5 700 tonnes of milk powder produced during the month.
There were 39 300 cattle slaughtered in November. The total slaughter weight of cattle was 12 500 tonnes, which is a decrease by 3 % compared with November 2018.
212 500 pigs were slaughtered in November 2019. The total slaughter weight of pigs, 19 700 tonnes, was 11 % less than in November 2018.
The slaughter of sheep and lambs also showed a major decrease compared with the same month last year. During the month, 29 400 sheep and lambs were slaughtered and the total slaughter of sheep and lambs was 570 tonnes, which is 19 % less than the corresponding value for November 2018.
The quantity of poultry slaughtered in November was 13 500 tonnes. In comparison with the figures for November 2018, the slaughter of poultry decreased by roughly 1 %.
This month’s figures for eggs delivered to wholesalers were not available at the time of publication. When available, the statistics will be published in the Statistical database of the Board of Agriculture.
