Significantly reduced slaughter of sheep and lambs in December
The quantity of milk delivered to dairies in December 2019 was 226 800 tonnes, of which 39 800 tonnes organic milk. Compared with December 2018, the total milk delivery decreased by roughly 4 %. At the same time, the delivery of organic milk increased by 1 % compared with December 2018. The total quantity of milk delivered to dairies in 2019 decreased by 2 %, while the delivered quantity of organic milk decreased marginally compared with 2018.
In December there were 61 000 tonnes of drinking milk and 19 000 tonnes of acidified milk produced. Furthermore, there were 8 100 tonnes of cream, 6 900 tonnes cheese, 900 tonnes of butter and 5 500 tonnes of milk powder produced. The production of cheese included 100 tonnes of organic products.
30 400 cattle were slaughtered in December 2019. The total slaughter of cattle amounted to 9 700 tonnes, which is an increase by 2 % compared with December 2018. In 2019, the slaughter of cattle increased by 2 % compared with 2018.
In December there were 190 400 pigs slaughtered. The total slaughter weight of pigs, 17 600 tonnes, decreased marginally compared with the same month previous year. Compared with 2018, the slaughter of pigs decreased by 4 % in 2019.
14 800 sheep and lambs were slaughtered in December. The total slaughter weight of sheep and lambs were 290 tonnes and was a decrease by 26 % compared with the figures for December 2018. Compared with 2018, the slaughter of sheep and lambs decreased by 9 % in 2019.
The quantity of poultry slaughtered in December 2019 was 12 200 tonnes, an increase by roughly 10 % in comparison with the statistics for December 2018. The quantity of slaughtered poultry was 4 % higher in 2019 than in 2018.
In December there were 10 400 tonnes of eggs, of which 1 600 tonnes organic eggs, delivered by the members of the Swedish Egg & Poultry Association. In comparison with December 2018, the total delivery of eggs increased by 6 %, while the delivery of organic eggs decreased by 10 %. In 2019, the total quantity of eggs delivered increased by 5 % compared with 2018. At the same time, the quantity of organic eggs delivered decreased by 1 %.
