This report provides preliminary results for the year 2019 on the yield per hectare and total production of cereal crops, dried pulses and oilseed crops. The results are presented for all of Sweden.
Cereals, dried pulses and oilseed crops
The total harvest of cereal crops for the whole country is estimated to exceed 6.1 million tonnes. This is 88% more than in 2018 and 15% more than the average for the previous five years.
The total production of winter wheat is estimated at nearly 3.3 million tonnes and the total production of spring barley is estimated at 1.4 million tonnes.
The total production of peas is estimated at 68 100 tonnes, which is 39% more than the previous year. The total production of field beans is estimated at 55 700 tonnes, which is 60% more than the previous year.
The 2019 harvest of rape and turnip rape is estimated at 374 800 tonnes. This is 72% more than the previous year.
Since 1998, statistics on crop yields for cereals, dried pulses and oilseed crops have been based on an interview survey. Since 2005, the farmers can also use Internet as a tool for data delivery to Statistics Sweden.
The sample of the survey for 2019 consists of 4 423 survey units. The selected farms are a random sample from the whole country. These preliminary results are based on a sub sample of 1 106 survey units. These units receive priority in the survey and in the subsequent data processing at Statistics Sweden. The survey was carried out in October and November. Information was requested for total farm production in tonnes of these crops and their average moisture content. Yields per hectare at farm level are calculated by dividing the total production by the crop areas of the farm. The total production was calculated from data on yield per hectare and area statistics that were calculated from final data on usage of agricultural land in 2019. These area data are based on figures from the administrative database for agricultural subsidies. Crop areas for plants harvested green have been excluded.
The tables show the number of observations, yield per hectare in kg, total production in metric tonnes and crop areas in hectares. Relative standard errors are given for the yield per hectare and total production.
