This report provides forecasts for 2006 concerning the yields per hectare and total production of cereals and oilseed crops. The results are presented for all of Sweden.
According to the forecast the yields per hectare of cereals are expected to be between 4 % lower and 18 % lower than the yields for 2005. Compared to the average yields for the last five years the yield per hectare for the majority of cereals is expected to be up to 9 % lower.
For oilseed crops the forecasts of the yields per hectare are lower than the yield per hectare last year for winter rape but higher for other oilseed crops. Compared with the average yield for the last five years the yields are expected to be lower for rape and higher for turnip rape.
The forecast of the total production of cereals is 4,4 million tons for 2006, which is 13 % lower than for 2005 and 18 % lower than the average for the years 2001-2005. The reason for this lower production is that both the yield per hectare and the cultivated areas are much lower than usual.
The total production of oilseeds is expected to be almost 10 % higher than 2005 mainly because of more areas cultivated with oilseed. Compared to the average production for the last five years the production for 2006 is expected to be 32 % higher. During the last three years there has been a significantly increase in areas with oilseeds.
